Magdalena & Frank - Their years together......
Frank and Magdalena were married almost 36 years and lived in the Elizabeth/Linden NJ area for the entire length of their marriage. They had six children. In order, they are Alexander, Bertha, Henry, Loretta, Helen and Joseph.
All of the children were born at home either on Delaware or Florida Street in the Frog Hollow section of Elizabeth. A majority of these years were spent in a four room apartment with no hot water on 67 Florida Street. The only heat generated in the apartment was from the stove and a kerosene heater.
Frank was employed at Phelps Dodge as a machinist for most of his working career. With six children, Magdalena was a stay at home mom spoiling everyone with her delicious cooking.
At the time of Frank's death in 1953, he and Magdalena lived in the Bayway section of Elizabeth on 945 Meredith Street in a house purchased by their daughter Bertha. It was virtually unheard of at the time that a single working woman could purchase a home!
Frank was interred in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Linden NJ. When Magdalena purchased the gravesite, she acquired an additional plot with the expectation of adding a park bench on the site. She never fulfilled her plans and to this day, there is a vacant space next to their gravesite.
After Frank's death, Magdalena and Joseph (then 19 years old) moved to Henry Street in Linden into a house with Loretta and her husband Edward. Several years later, Magdalena moved with Loretta and her family to Main Street in the Tremley Point section of Linden, a few blocks away from where Joseph lived with his wife and three young children. When she passed away in 1969, Magdalena was buried next to her husband.
Their six children married and among them had 26 children. Through the years the family has expanded and are now scattered throughout the United States.
Every member of the family is proud of our heritage. Family values, such as our love of family, our integrity, our commitment to our faiths and our passion for life, stands testament to gifts bestowed on us by Frank & Magdalena.
